If the word “butter” is in the title, you know it’s gonna be good!

Servings: 2 dozen cookies
Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 15 min
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients Add to grocery list

1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Confectioner’s sugar, for dusting
1   (18 ounce) box moist chocolate cake mix
1   (8-ounce) brick cream cheese, room temperature
1   egg
1   stick of butter, room temperature

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large bowl with an electric mixer, cream the cream cheese and butter until smooth. Beat in the egg. Then beat in the vanilla extract. Beat in the cake mix. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours to firm up so that you can roll the batter into balls. Roll the chilled batter into tablespoon sized balls and then roll them in confectioner’s sugar. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart. Bake 12 minutes. The cookies will remain soft and gooey. Cool completely and sprinkle with more confectioners’ sugar, if desired.

While these are very good...they still aren't as good as the bakeries in STL. If I can just figure out how they are making their's..I'd be thrilled. Same thing happens when finding recipes for the gooey butter cake..none are like the actual original. ALso to quicken the chilling process, I"ve put the bowel of dough in the freezer for approx 30 - 45min..if you still think it's too sticky just put it in for a bit longer. Between batches in the oven I put the bowel in the refrigerator to keep the dough from getting messy

I followed the instructions exactly except that my box of cake mix wasn't 18 ounces, it was 15.25 ounces. Even though I had less dry mix than recommended, the dough was a pain to mix with my hand mixer. I would recommend a stand mixer for this recipe. The cookies turned out mushy and would not set up. My husband tasted one and threw it away! I normally love your recipes, but this will be one that I won't make again.

Ummm. Their is something opposite of goody and cookielike going on with these. Made these as directed and just got mini muffin.like cakes. Second round I used a muffin.tin.and stuffed.them with a cherry cordial. Probably will abandon ship.on this.one..

These are absolutely delicious - even after freezing. However, they are a pain in the BUTT to make. Very sticky and messy.

I made this cookie for Christmas and it was a hit!! Everyone who tried it loved it. It was very easy to make and is similar to another cookie "chocolate krinles" that I usually make....but I think it's better. This ones a keeper.
