Ingredients:
Cake:
1 18 1/4-ounce package yellow cake mix
1 egg
8 tablespoons butter, melted
Filling:
1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 tablespoons butter, melted
1 16-ounce box powdered sugar
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine the cake mix, egg, and butter and mix well with an electric mixer. Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13 by 9-inch baking pan. Prepare Filling
In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla, and butter and beat together.
Next, add the powdered sugar and mix well. Spread over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Make sure not to over bake as the center should be a little gooey.
Servings: 6 to 8 servings

I had never tried this recipe because it sounded way too rich. Much to my surprise, I found one already baked at a WalMart Supercenter! Actually, it was just pieces they were selling. I was right....it was rich, but boy I am now a convert! I can't wait to make it and eat it all by myself! What a wonderful treat!

THIS IS PERFECT ANY TIME.. I ALWAYS MAKE A PUMPKIN GOOEY CAKE AT THANKSGIVING AND I NEVER HAVE ANY LEFT. BUT, USUALLY WE HAVE PUMPKIN PIE LEFT OVER. IT'S ALL GOOD :)

Paula I'd never made this before, and found it inside your cookbook that you graciously gave out at the MomLogic taping in September. Good God Almighty......this is one very unique, De-LISH dessert, and I never use cake mixes for anything. WOW is all I can say. I have made this cake for many years, and there is not a crumb left over. My favorite is to use a brownie mix instead of a cake mix. It is sooooo gooooooood!

I made this on the recommendation of a friend. Once I made it, I realized that this is a cake my mama made all the time when I was a kid. She called it a Neiman Marcus cake. I have made three in the last week and couldn't figure out how they were being eaten so quickly. Come to find out my daughter was taking pieces to school to share/trade at lunch.

I have made this wonderful Gooey Butter Cake many times and many ways. The last time I made it with a chocolate cake mix and put peanut butter in the topping, it was so good! Don't overbake, it needs to be gooey!

Absolutely sinful! But who cares? This is wonderful and so versatile. I've added fruit, toffee chips, changed the flavor of cake mix, and it's always a winner. Just DON'T overbake it and it'll turn out fabulous everytime.

I usually add one cup of finely chopped pecans to the bottom layer and always get compliments. You can bake these ahead of time, cut in squares and freeze, pulling fresh ones out as needed.

This is an awesome recipe and can be customized for whatever flavors you are craving. I always get asked around the holidays to make the pumpkin version of this. The pineapple and the chocolate-peanut butter versions are also very tasty! I usually make this in a 10" springform pan or as cupcakes and decorate it with some whipped cream. YUM!
